The UBS Verbier Festival Youth Orchestra organises annual auditions

Audition programme
Candidates for all instruments, with the exception of percussion, should play a movement from two different pieces of contrasting character and period, lasting 10 minutes in total. At least one of the pieces should be accompanied (except for harp players). In addition, a list of orchestral excerpts will be sent with the invitation letter.
For violinists and cellists, one of the two pieces should be a movement from a Bach solo work. Percussionists: Please see details in the Auditions Brochure below.

Membership
Musicians accepted to become members of the Orchestra will be required to sign an agreement with the Orchestra's Foundation, accepting the rules of the Orchestra, and making a firm commitment to both the Verbier Festival in the summer and the autumn international tour periods.
During each activity period, the Orchestra's Foundation will pay travel costs and provide food and accommodation. Each orchestra musician will also receive a financial contribution of CHF 400.- (c. $ 250) per week.
At the end of the two periods in 2004, some musicians may be invited to participate in the 2005 sessions without audition.

Summer session.
The summer period is from 20 June to 2 August, 2004. As resident orchestra of the Verbier Festival & Academy the UBS Verbier Festival Youth Orchestra will perform 6 symphonic concerts, conducted by James Levine, Valery Gergiev, Yuri Temirkanov and Michael Tilson Thomas.
Full orchestral and sectional rehearsals will take place in Verbier. Sectional rehearsals will be given by principals of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, New York. Musicians will also have the opportunity to form chamber music groups and perform in different settings.

International autumn tour
In 2004, the UBS Verbier Festival Youth Orchestra will tour internationally from the end of October to mid November.
